H & B Mining are well known for innovative conveyor transfer design within the Australian iron-ore community providing easy maintenance solutions for conveyor transfer points. The same success in now being established within coal mining sector, most recently within Queensland’s Bowen Basin.

When plans begun for a raw coal handling upgrade at one of the open pit coal mine operations in the Bowen Basin, the operational manager identified H & B EMS conveyor skirts and drop down idlers (DDI) as a ‘must have’ based on previous experience with H & B conveyor products on other mines.

Installed conveyor drop down idler 179 800 500 80 cThe operational manager was seeking solutions for easy maintenance of conveyor roller change out and skirt liner maintenance. Unacceptable material spillage and build up around the conveyor point had developed. Commonly, this occurs when there is an inadequate seal between the belt and the skirt rubber which can be caused by an inconsistent belt line. Regular maintenance of skirt liners and conveyor rollers prevents such occurrences. Easy access to conveyor rollers and skirt liners promote regular maintenance.

H & B have now designed and supplied EMS skirts and drop down idlers for a number of conveyor transfers across the coal mine. With the realisation that H & B had recently upgraded the DDI idler with the EMRI (Easy Maintenance Retractable Idler), the mine made an executive decision to trial the EMRI. Installed for a month, the EMRI is getting rave reviews and orders for more are expected in the coming weeks.
